A one day juice cleanse means drinking cold-pressed juices and water for a single day in place of regular meals, usually six or seven bottles spaced a few hours apart. It is short, easy to plan around and simple to stop, which makes it a gentle way to try a juice day and see how you feel. It is not a medical treatment, and it is not right for everyone.
Our Juice Cleanse Guide covers the wider topic, from safety to choosing a program.
What a One-Day Juice Cleanse Looks Like
Meraki’s one-day cleanse includes seven bottles: three green juices, three fruit juices and one tonic. The juices named on our cleanse page include Abundance, Clarity, Energy, Ginger-Aid, Gratitude, Passion and Vitality. Green options lean on cucumber, leafy greens and lemon, while fruit options bring in ingredients like pineapple, strawberry, beet, apple and carrot.
The idea is not to prove anything. People usually choose a single juice day as a short break from heavily processed food, a way to get more fruits and vegetables into one day, or a nudge toward a steadier routine.
A Suggested Order for the Day
There is no required sequence. The schedule below is just a suggestion that many people find easy: the tonic first, greens earlier, and fruit juices later in the day. Shift the times to fit your own schedule.
| Approximate time | Bottle |
|---|---|
| 7:30 a.m. | Tonic, followed by a glass of water |
| 8:30 a.m. | Green juice |
| 10:30 a.m. | Green juice |
| 12:30 p.m. | Green juice |
| 3:00 p.m. | Fruit juice |
| 5:30 p.m. | Fruit juice |
| 7:30 p.m. | Fruit juice |

Tips for the Day
- Drink water between bottles. Keep a water bottle nearby all day.
- Cut back on caffeine beforehand. If you usually drink coffee or tea, stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, drowsiness and irritability, which usually pass after a couple of days (source). Tapering in the days before can make the juice day more comfortable.
- Keep juice cold. Refrigerate bottles as soon as they arrive. The FDA warns that juice that has not been pasteurized or otherwise treated could be contaminated with harmful bacteria (source), so choose treated juice.
- Keep your schedule light. A gentle walk is fine; a hard workout can wait.
- Sip slowly. Taking your time with each bottle can make the day feel less like a countdown.
- Eat if you need to. A juice day is usually much lower in calories than a normal day (source). If you are very hungry or feel unwell, have a simple whole-food meal. That is not failing.
Why Start With One Day?
A single day gives you most of what people are looking for, including structure, more produce and a pause from usual habits, without a big commitment. There is also no good evidence that longer cleanses do more. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), a 2015 review found no compelling research to support these diets for weight management or for eliminating toxins from the body (source). The NCCIH also notes that restrictive diets usually do not lead to lasting weight loss and may not provide all the nutrients you need.

What to Eat the Next Day
Ease back in with simple, whole foods rather than a heavy meal. The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend eating whole vegetables and fruits in their original form, keeping 100% juice to limited portions, and note that no amount of added sugars is recommended (source).
- Breakfast: oats or eggs with fruit
- Lunch: a big salad or vegetable soup with beans
- Dinner: roasted vegetables, a whole grain and a protein you enjoy
- Snacks: whole fruit, nuts or vegetables
Juice can stay part of your week in reasonable portions alongside whole foods.
Who Should Talk to a Doctor First
Even one day of juice is a change to how you eat. Skip it, or talk with your health care provider first if any of these apply to you:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA lists pregnant women among the groups at higher risk of serious illness from untreated juice (source).
- Diabetes. The NCCIH advises people with diabetes to follow the eating plan recommended by their health care team (source).
- Kidney disease or a history of kidney stones. The NCCIH says people prone to kidney stones should limit high-oxalate foods such as leafy greens and beets, and the NIDDK lists spinach among high-oxalate foods (source). Many green juices contain these ingredients.
- Taking medication, including warfarin. Leafy greens are high in vitamin K, and people taking warfarin are advised to keep their vitamin K intake consistent (source). Grapefruit juice can also interact with some drugs (source).
- A history of an eating disorder. A day built around restriction may not be a healthy choice.
- Under 18 or an older adult. Children and older adults are also among the groups the FDA considers at higher risk from untreated juice.
- A weakened immune system. Choose only pasteurized or otherwise treated juice, and check with your care team first.
FAQ
How many juices are in a 1 day juice cleanse?
It varies by program. Meraki’s one-day cleanse includes seven bottles: three green juices, three fruit juices and one tonic.
Can I drink coffee during a one-day cleanse?
Many people cut back beforehand to avoid withdrawal headaches on the day. If you depend on caffeine, check with your provider about what makes sense for you.
Is a one-day cleanse a good way to manage weight?
A cleanse is not a weight-management tool. The NCCIH notes that early changes come from low calorie intake and tend to reverse (source).
Can I exercise on a juice day?
Light movement such as walking or stretching is a sensible choice. Save intense training for a regular eating day.
